CHT hosted an event on October 22 which featured CHT Founder Newt Gingrich and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal which focused on improving Louisiana's health and healthcare systems. Both Speaker Gingrich and Gov. Jindal provided opening remarks at the event which was titled, "Creating a 21st Century Intelligent Health System in Louisiana." The program also featured a series of three panels. The first panel focused on “Designing an Effective and Efficient Health Delivery System in Louisiana.” The second panel was on, “Achieving Optimal Health and Wellness for a Productive Louisiana.” The final panel of the day was, “A Community Approach to Managing Diabetes and Obesity.”
The Baton Rouge Advocate reports that both Speaker Gingrich and Gov. Jindal (R) discussed the importance of advancing technology in healthcare. Speaker Gingrich called on the federal government provide incentives for healthcare providers to be completely electronic by December 2012. He believes the government should subsidize electronic health record adoption.
Gov. Jindal told reporters that he also supports government action to boost the transition to EHRs. Jindal's health care delivery reform plan includes a better use of technology.
